FAQs

Pregnancy & Fetal Medicine

A: The first scan, called a Viability scan, is usually performed between 7 and 10 weeks. It confirms intrauterine pregnancy, detects the heartbeat, and helps accurately date the pregnancy. Sometimes it may reveal early complications, such as an ectopic pregnancy or a missed miscarriage, allowing early care and support.

A: The Nuchal Scan is an ultrasound performed between 11+3 and 13+6 weeks that assesses fetal anatomy, chromosomal risk markers, and risk for preeclampsia and trisomies. NIPT is a blood test that analyzes fetal DNA in the mother’s blood to estimate the chance of chromosomal abnormalities. These two tests complement each other — the scan gives structural, placental and preeclampsia information, while NIPT provides genetic insight.

A: If any abnormality is detected, Dr. Tena provides detailed counseling and, when needed, coordinates further diagnostic testing such as CVS or amniocentesis. In complex cases, she consults directly with her international colleagues at leading centers, ensuring you receive the most up-to-date and personalized care.

A: Advanced fetal interventions such as laser therapy for TTTS, shunt placement, or FETO for diaphragmatic hernia are currently performed in specialized European centers. Our clinic provides full diagnostic evaluation, counseling, and organizes swift referral to partner centers, ensuring seamless care before, during, and after the procedure.

Gynecology

A: For most women, screening is recommended every 2 years, or more frequently if previous results showed changes. The choice between hrHPV testing and the LBC Pap test depends on your age, previous results, and individual risk factors. Dr. Tena will guide you on the best screening schedule for you.

A: SIS is an advanced ultrasound technique that uses sterile saline to gently expand the uterine cavity, allowing detailed visualization of the endometrium. It’s recommended for women with irregular bleeding, fertility issues, or suspected uterine abnormalities like polyps or fibroids. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and performed in the clinic.

A: Both transvaginal and transabdominal ultrasounds are non-invasive and generally painless. Some women may feel mild pressure or temporary discomfort, but the procedure is gentle and usually well tolerated. You’ll receive immediate results and explanations during your visit.

A: Yes. We offer hormonal and copper intrauterine devices (IUDs) — safe, effective, and reversible methods lasting 3 to 10 years. Insertion is usually done in the last days of menstrual bleeding, and follow-up care is provided to ensure comfort and correct placement.
